Sodium (18Ah Cells) 4S 3P Busbars and Hardware
Creating a 4S3P battery pack with 18Ah sodium cells involves precise selection of busbars and hardware to ensure durability and safety. In a 4S3P configuration:
- 4S (Series) connects four cells to increase voltage, resulting in a nominal pack voltage around 9.2V-10.8V, depending on the specific sodium cell chemistry.
- 3P (Parallel) connects three of these series strings in parallel, giving a total pack capacity of 54Ah, balancing both power and size.

Busbars play a crucial role in efficient current distribution. Copper is the preferred material due to its high conductivity; a thickness of 2–3mm and a width of around 10–15mm will generally support the pack’s current demands. Ensure the busbars only span the necessary distance between cells in series and parallel groups to reduce resistance and maintain stability.
For hardware, use stainless steel bolts, nuts, and both flat and spring washers to secure connections. Insulating materials between busbars and cells prevent accidental short circuits, enhancing safety.
During assembly, check each connection’s torque for consistency, then perform a voltage test across all cells. Adding a Battery Management System (BMS) is essential for monitoring cell health, balancing, and preventing overheating, which ensures the pack’s longevity and safe operation in high-performance applications.
