Sodium (18Ah Cells) 4S 5P Busbars and Hardware

Creating a 4S5P battery pack with 18Ah sodium cells requires quality busbars and hardware to ensure safe, efficient power delivery. In a 4S5P configuration:

  • 4S (Series) increases voltage by connecting four cells in series, giving a nominal pack voltage of around 9.2V-10.8V (based on sodium chemistry).
  • 5P (Parallel) increases capacity, with five strings in parallel for a total capacity of 90Ah.

Busbars are key to connecting cells securely and reducing resistance. Copper busbars are recommended for their high conductivity, typically 2–3mm thick and 10–15mm wide, to handle high currents efficiently. The busbars should be carefully measured to span connections, aligning with the cells’ layout to prevent misalignment or stress.

For hardware, use stainless steel bolts, nuts, and washers to create reliable connections. Adding flat and spring washers will evenly distribute pressure and prevent loosening over time. Insulators between busbars and cells are essential to avoid accidental shorts.

During assembly, check each connection’s torque, and after completion, test for voltage consistency. A Battery Management System (BMS) should be included to monitor each cell string, ensuring balanced charge, temperature control, and pack longevity. This robust setup provides a high-capacity, reliable pack for demanding applications.
