Sodium (18Ah Cells) 4S 6P Busbars and Hardware

Building a 4S6P battery pack with 18Ah sodium cells demands carefully selected busbars and hardware to ensure high current capability and safety. In this 4S6P configuration:

  • 4S (series) connects four cells to increase voltage, achieving a nominal pack voltage of around 9.2V-10.8V, depending on sodium cell chemistry.
  • 6P (parallel) connects six series strings, boosting total capacity to 108Ah, ideal for high-capacity applications.

Busbars should be copper for superior conductivity, around 2–3mm thick and 10–15mm wide, to handle the large currents typical of a pack this size. Proper spacing and alignment are crucial, as each busbar should only span the necessary distance to connect series and parallel groups, minimizing resistance and thermal buildup.

Hardware requirements include stainless steel bolts, nuts, and both flat and spring washers to secure connections and prevent loosening over time. Insulation materials are vital to prevent short circuits between adjacent busbars.

After assembly, ensure each connection is properly torqued, then test voltage consistency across the pack. Integrating a Battery Management System (BMS) allows for monitoring cell balance, temperature, and pack health. This configuration delivers high capacity and durability, making it ideal for applications requiring sustained energy output.
