Spim (16Ah Cells) 4S 3P Busbars and Hardware
Building a 4S3P battery pack using 16Ah SPIM cells requires attention to busbars and hardware to ensure safety and efficiency. In a 4S3P configuration:
- 4S (Series) connects four cells to increase the voltage, producing a nominal pack voltage typically around 14.8V to 16.8V depending on the SPIM cell chemistry.
- 3P (Parallel) connects three of these series strings in parallel, resulting in a total pack capacity of 48Ah, ideal for medium-to-high power applications.

Busbars are key to efficient current flow across cells. Copper busbars are recommended for their conductivity, with a thickness of around 2–3mm and a width of 10–15mm to handle the pack’s current load safely. Position each busbar to connect series and parallel cells with minimal distance to reduce resistance and prevent unnecessary heat buildup.
Hardware considerations include stainless steel bolts, nuts, and both flat and spring washers to ensure a stable, vibration-resistant connection. Insulating materials are essential to prevent short circuits between busbars and other components.
Once assembled, double-check the torque on each connection for consistency and test voltage levels across the pack. Integrate a Battery Management System (BMS) to monitor cell health, balance, and temperature control. A BMS is crucial for safety and extends the lifespan of the pack, making this setup reliable and robust for high-performance energy storage needs.
